BYD Will Bring its Green Car and Bus to Eco Expo Asia 2011
Hong Kong– Oct 24, 2011, BYD will take part in Eco Expo Asia 2011 - International Trade Fair on Environmental Protection held in Asia World-Expo Hong Kong during 26 to 29 October. BYD’s pure-electric crossover vehicle the e6 and the pure-electric bus the eBUS-12 will be showcased in the BYD’s booth in hall 2 at NO.2-J22. Moreover, BYD will also provide a trial ride of both the e6 and the eBUS-12 during this year’s Eco Expo Asia.
BYD in Hong Kong
With reference to a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) signed between BYD and the Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited (KMB), one of the world’s biggest public transportation organizations, in March 2011, a Hong Kong version of the BYD eBUS-12, featuring right-hand drive, low entry, more seats and a spacious interior, will be delivered to KMB for trials by the end of the year. The Hong Kong version eBUS-12 is being developed in partnership with KMB, which is contributing notably with its strong expertise and technical support in the areas of design and component specification, giving the Hong Kong version a longer life, enhanced stability and better overall quality.
In this August, BYD signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with APAS on the collaboration on the research and development of electric vehicles in Hong Kong.BYD has set up an electric vehicle R&D centre in Hong Kong Science Park this year to carry out research and development on the electric vehicles-related technologies for Hong Kong market with APAS and other research institutes in Hong Kong.
BYD e6 and eBUS-12
The e6 presented in the Eco Expo Asia 2011 is a 5-seat all-electric vehicle with an extended wheelbase of 2830 mm (111.4 inches). It is equipped with a 75kW motor and the BYD-developed Fe battery, powering the e6 to a range of 300Km (186.4 miles) on a single charge in urban conditions and the projected top speed is 140kM/h (87mph). It only takes 40 minutes to fully charge the e6 using the 100kW fast charging cabinet and 6 hours with a 10kW standard charging cabinet.
The fleet of 50 e6 taxis has been in service in Shenzhen since May 2010, and 300 e6 taxis have been serving in the Shenzhen transportation system since this year. The overall driving distance has surpassed 5.2 million kilometers until this September.
The BYD eBUS-12 is a 12-meter long pure-electric bus which has no direct emission and low noise. The specially designed in-wheel drive and the electronically controlled air suspension give the eBUS-12 an exceptionally low floor and ample door and floor space for easy passenger loading and unloading. The eBUS-12 is able to run 200 km to 250 km on a single charge in Shenzhen urban conditions (without input from the solar cells). It can be fully charged in 3.5 hours using the 100kW fast charging cabinet and 6 hours using a 50 kW normal charging cabinet.
During the Universiade 2011 held in Shenzhen, 40 BYD eBUS-12 served in the Universiade Village, sports venues and the Main Media Center to provide transportation service for competitors, technical officials, reporters and spectators. After the Universiade, 200 eBUS-12 have been served in the Shenzhen public transportation system since this August. The BYD eBUS-12 are also running in Changsha and Haikou. The accumulative range for the eBUS-12 running in China has been 950,000 km until this September.
