September 27, 2008, MidAmerican Energy Holdings, a unit of US billionaire investor Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc., took an approximately 10% stake in BYD by purchasing 225,000,000 new shares issued at HK$8.00 (US$1.03) per share - an investment of approximately HK$1.8 billion or US$230 million. This transaction will play a strategic role as BYD expands its operations in North America, Europe and around the globe.


December 20, 2007, BYD Electronic Co., Ltd. (SEHK: 0285) went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Auto Business

By adopting innovative technologies and processes BYD has drastically reduced the cost of solar energy systems to a level equal to that of coal generated electricity. Battery Energy Storage Station

Based on its core Fe Battery technology, BYD has developed its battery energy storage station and established technology support for intelligent networks. Electric Vehicle

Electric vehicles present a major potential for development in the fields of urban public transport and private cars and commercial vehicles. On December 15, 2008, BYD F3DM, the world's first dual mode electric car independent of specialized charging stations hit the market in Shenzhen. In January 2010, the BYD pure electric vehicle e6 got approval from the Government for launch; By May 2010, the world's first pure EV taxi, the BYD e6, went in to commercial operation and in January of that year BYD's pure electric bus, the ebus, was successfully developed, securing BYD a leading role in the global new energy market.
